PCHS SOFTBALL

 
05/11/2010-The JV softball team hosted a double-header against Franklin County and swept the Lady Eagles 1-0 and 8-5.  The girls improved their record to 14-1 with the wins.  In the first game Whitney Scott threw a shut out, striking out 7 batters, only allowing 2 hits and no walks.  The only run of the first game came in the 4th inning when Kerri Rakes led off with a double.  Kati Collins then bunted Rakes to third and Dani Nourse hit the ball to the first base that scored Rakes.  In the second game, Natalie Mitchell took the win striking out 3 batters and allowing 4 hits.  Mitchell also helped herself at the plate going 1-2 with 3 RBIs, a walk, and scoring 2 runs.  Also Logan Martin went 2-2 with 2 runs scored.  The JV Lady Cougars are back at home next Tuesday against GW Danville and again next Wednesday against Carroll County.  They travel to Tunstall next Thursday to finish up the Piedmont District.

05/10/2010-The JV softball team traveled to Dan River and came home with a 4-3 win.  Whitney Scott and Natalie Mitchell got the job done in the circle.  Scott got the win for the Lady Cougars pitching 4 complete innings, striking out 5 batters and allowing 6 hits.  Mitchell finished the last 3 innings striking out 5 batters and allowing 1 hit.  Neither pitcher allowed a walk.  At the plate, the Lady Cougars were lead by Karleigh Wilkinson who came to the plate her 1st at bat and got the 1st run for the Cougars with an in-the-park homerun.  Wilkinson continued with 2 doubles and a single, which made her perfect at the plate going 4-4.  Kerri Rakes and Kati Collins each went 2-3 and both scored a run.  We are now 12-1 overall and 6-1 in the district.  We host a double-header on Tuesday (05-11) with Franklin County starting at 5pm.

05/06/2010-The JV Lady Cougars hosted Martinsville and won 18-0.  Natalie Mitchell got the win in the circle, throwing three innings.  She faced 10 batters and struck out eight.  Whitney Scott pitched the 4th and 5th innings, facing seven batters and striking out four of those batters.  Each pitcher allowed one hit.  At the plate we were led by Sarah Bryant.  She went 3-4 with a double, 2 RBIs and scoring 3 runs.  Hannah Largen went 2-3 with a double, 1 RBI, a walk and scored 3 runs.  The JV Lady Cougars have a busy week ahead with 4 games.  Monday, we travel to Dan River, Tuesday we host a double-header against Franklin Co. and Friday we travel to Tunstall.  The record now stands at 11-1 overall and 6-1 in the district.

 

05/04/2010-The PCHS JV Cougars traveled to Magna Vista and won 17-2 in 5 innings.  Whitney Scott got the win for the Lady Cougars striking out 5 batters and allowing one walk.  Hannah Hobbs lead the Cougars at the plate going 2-2 with a walk, 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs.  Kerri Rakes went 1-1 with a double, 2 walks, 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs.  Our next game is against Martinsville at home on Thursday.  Their record stands at 10-1 and 5-1 in the district.

04/30/2010-The JV softball team traveled to Bassett and lost 5-4 in 8 innings.  Natalie Mitchell pitched all 8 innings and got the loss for the Lady Cougars.  The team was lead by Logan Martin who went 2-4 with a run, Mitchell also went 2-4 with a run and a RBI, and Kerri Rakes went 1-3 with 2 RBIs that came in the 6th inning to put the Lady Cougars up 4-0.  The Lady Bengals came back in the 7th and tied the game, then finishing the game in the bottom of the 8th.  We are now 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the district.  We have 3 games in the week ahead:  Playing Carroll County at home on Monday, traveling to Magna Vista on Tuesday, and hosting Martinsville on Thursday.

04/26/2010-The JV softball team defeated Tunstall 3-2.  Whitney Scott got the win in the circle.  She pitched all seven innings allowing only three hits with no walks and striking out eight batters.  The Lady Cougars were lead offensively by Logan Martin who went 2-4 and scoring a run.  Also Natalie Mitchell went 1-3 with 2 RBIs.  The JVs will travel to Bassett on Friday.  We are now 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the district. 

04/20/2010-We traveled to Martinsville to play Martinsville's JV at Clearview Elementary School.  With the whole team's effort we won 27-0.  Every girl on the team scored at least 1 run and went to the plate at least 2 trips.  The team got a total of 10 hits and 16 RBI's.  Whitney Scott got the win; striking out 5 and allowing no hits in 3 innings facing 10 batters.  Kerri Rakes finished the game in the circle with 2 innings of pitching.  She had no hits, one strike out and faces 6 batters.  The JV softball team is now 8-0 and overall and 3-0 in the district.  We play Tunstall at home on Tuesday and travel to Bassett on Friday of next week.   

04/15/2010-JV softball team defeated Magna Vista tonight 17-0 in 5 inning.  Natalie Mitchell was the winning pitcher striking out 11 batters, allowing 1 hit and 2 walks.  The JV lady Cougars travel to Martinsville on Tuesday to play Martinsville.  7-0 overall and 2-0 district.
 

04/13/2010-The JV Lady Cougars played at home against Bassett and won 11-1.  Whitney Scott got the win in the circle striking out 4.  She also went 2 for 4 at the plate with a triple and 3 RBIs.  Ally Clement went 3 for 4.  Her hits came from 2 doubles and a triple.  She also scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.  The JV Lady Cougars play at home again on Thursday at 5:00 against Magna Vista.  The Cougars are now 6-0. 
 

03/31/2010-The JV Lady Cougar softball team traveled to Danville to play GW Danville.  The Lady Cougars beat the GW in 5 innings 18-2.  Natalie Mitchell was the winning pitcher striking out 6 batters, with no hits, no walks, and no runs in 3 innings on the mound.  Mitchell also went 3 for 3 at the plate and scoring 2 runs.  Logan Martin lead the team tonight going 3 for 3 with a walk and scoring 3 runs.  The JV softball team has next week off from playing and our next game will be at home against Bassett, which starts district play.

03/23/2010-  Varsity softball won at Chatham by a score of 9-3.

03/23/2010-The JV softball team hosted Chatham tonight (3/23) in a thrilling 10 inning game.  Whitney Scott was the winning pitcher, pitching all 10 innings.  Logan Martin went 2-4.  One of those hits came in 10th inning when she lead off with a single.  Martin then stole 2nd.  Dani Nourse reached 1st on a single and finished the night 4-5 at the plate.  That put lead off hitter Ally Clement up to the plate with 2 on and no outs.  Clement got the game winning hit with a long ball to center field scoring Martin easily.  The Cougars won 6-5.  The Lady Cougars will travel to Franklin Co. on Friday to play Franklin Co JVs.  The JV Lady Cougars are now 4-0. 
 

03/22/2010-Varsity Softball won 7-3 against hosts, the Dan River Wildcats.

03/22/2010-The JV softball team won its home opener against Dan River 21-1 in five innings.  Whitney Scott got the win on the mound and went 3 for 1 with a triple.  Natalie Mitchell went 4 for 4 with a walk.  Her walk started the 3rd inning off and Hannah Hobbs came to the plate and hit a 2 run homerun.  That started the momentum for the Cougars scoring 9 runs in the 3rd.    Hobbs finished the night 2 for 1 with a walk.   The JV Lady Cougars play at home against Chatham on 3/23. 

03/16/2010-Varsity Softball won an exciting game in the bottom of 8th inning by a score of 5-4.  Haleigh Wilson had the game winning hit and Brittany Stovall pitched all eight innings for the win.
