05/17/2010-The PCHS JV Cougar
Baseball team will be playing in the JV Championship game against Tunstall on
Friday, May 28 at 5pm.
05/14/2010-The PCHS JV Baseball team lost to Tunstall 0-1 in PC 2-error, 5-4 hit game. Wendell Hutchens had three of the Cougar's five hits and rounding out the other two hits were Nick Dalton and Christian Edmonds. Dalton got the loss for the Cougars and had two strike-outs. Head Coach Dale Overfelt commented after the game, "Our bats let us down today. We played good defense but, could not put together any string of hits." This regular-season ending game put the Cougars in a three-way tie for first place with a 10-9 overall and 6-2 district record. 05/06/2010-The Patrick County Baseball team improved its record to 15-3 and 6-1 in the district with a 12-0 win over Martinsville. Dillon Hall, Jody Martin Parker Heath and Jacob Reynolds all had 2 hits for the Cougars. Jalen Reynolds had a 3 run homerun. Bryce Hubbard picked up the win on the mound pitching 5 scoreless innings. 05/04/2010-The Patrick County Baseball team improved its record to 14-3 on the season and 5-1 in district with a 10-0 win over Magna Vista. Jacob Reynolds and Jody Martin led the Cougars with 2 hits each. Six other Cougars had 1 hit each. Jalen Reynolds added a 2 run homerun in the 1st. Morgan Boles picked up the win pitching 4 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits. 04/30/2010-The PCHS JV Baseball team is back to a .500 season, losing to Bassett 1-3. Tyler Dalton got the loss for the Cougars, pitching all six innings, striking out five batters. Tyler Belcher, Nick Bowman, Christian Edmonds, Devin Helms and Braden Nester all hit singles for the Cougars, finally scoring in the seventh inning. 04/30/2010-The Patrick County baseball team defeated Bassett 9-1. Parker Heath pitched six solid innings giving up two hits and one run. Dillon Hall pitched a perfect 7th inning. Eight cougars had hits with Morgan Boles capping off a six run 6th inning with a three run homer. Jody Martin added two RBI's. The Cougars improve their record to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in the district. 04/26/2010-The PCHS JV Cougar baseball team defeated Tunstall 8-5. The cougars out-hit the Trojans 14-7 and tied with two errors each. Nick Dalton went the distance for the Cougars on the mound getting the win in seven innings with five strike outs. Devin Helms had three hits and with two hits each were Cougars Chase Barnes, Carson Clifton, Christian Edmonds and Wendell Hutchens. With solo hits were Tyler Belcher, Nick Dalton and Nick Bowman. 04/26/2010-The Patrick County Baseball team lost its first district game of the season, losing to Tunstall 3-2. Morgan Boles pitched for the Cougars giving up only three hits, walking two batters, and giving up one-earned run. Ben Cobbs pick up the win for the Trojans allowing six hits and two runs. 04/23/2010-The PCHS JV Cougar baseball squad lost 0-10 to Franklin County. Tyler Belcher got the solo hit for the team-a double. Evan Marshall got the loss and Tyler Dalton pitched for 4.2 innings, striking out three batters. The Eagles scored six runs in the first inning and the Cougars scored five errors during the game. The JV Cougar record now stands at 7-7. 04/21/2010-"We got off to a bad start, but battled back hard to lose a close game in the last inning," was Coach Dale Overfelt's comment after tis JV team's 8-9 loss to Carroll County. The Cougars had five errors on 13 hits as compared to the Cavaliers' two errors and 11 hits. Chase Davis led the sluggers with four hits. 04/20/2010-The PCHS JV improved their record to 7-5 after a 22-0 win against Martinsville. Braden Nester pitched the five innings , striking out 14 batters, getting the win on the mound. Nester, Tyler Dalton, Tyler Belcher and Levi Trent each had two hits for the teams and with one hit each were Chases Barnes, Wendell Hutchens, Cole Trent and Brad Turner. 04/20/2010-The Patrick County Baseball Team defeated Martinsville by a score of 17-1. The Cougars were led by Dillon Hall with 3 hits and 3 RBI's. Daniel Leviner had 2 hits and Bryce Hubbard added 2 hits one, of which was a 3-run homerun. Dylan Nelson added a homerun. The Cougars totaled 15 hits. Dylan Nelson picked up the win for the Cougars. Patrick County improves its record to 12-2 on the season and 3-0 in district play. 04/15/2010-The Patrick County Baseball team improved its record to 11-2, (2-0 district) with a win over Magna Vista by a score of 11 -2. Daniel Leviner led the Cougars with 2 hits and 3 RBI's and Dillon Hall with 2 hits and 2 RBI's. Bryce Hubbard also added a 2RBI's. Parker Heath threw a complete game 2 hitter giving up no earned runs. 04/14/2010-The PCHS JV Baseball team defeated Hidden Valley 15-5; outhitting their opponents 20-7. Nick Bowman pitched for 3 1/3 innings, striking out two batters picking up the win. Tyler Dalton pitched for the remaining 1 2/3 innings, also striking out two batters. Christian Edmonds, Devin Helms and Wendell Hutchens each had three hits; With two hits each were Tyler Belcher, Nick Bowman and Levi Trent. With one hit apiece were Nick Dalton, Tyler Dalton, Chase Davis, Evan Marshall, and Brad Turner. Patrick County had only two errors. The JV Cougar record is now 5-5. 04/13/2010-The Patrick County Baseball team improved its record to 10-2 on the season and opened up district play with a win over Bassett on Tuesday, by a score of 12 - 5. Dillon Hall picked up the win for the cougars pitching the final 2 and 1/3 innings. The Cougars were led by Bryce Hubbard who was 3 for 3 with a homerun and a double with 3 RBI's, and Jalen Reynolds who had a 3 run homerun in the 3rd, and finished with 4 RBI's. Dylan Nelson and Jody Martin added 2 hits each. Overall Record is now 10-2 District 1-0. 04/08/2010-The Patrick County Baseball team finished its week at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach with a loss to Atlantic Shores from Virginia Beach by a score of 10 -2. Coach Terry Harris had the following comments after the tournament. "We finished the week with a 2 and 2 record in Myrtle Beach and this was a great experience for the players. We played against some very good teams. I am very proud of our players. They represented Patrick County High School well." The PCHS Cougar Baseball team overall record is now 9 and 2 as they begin district play on Tuesday against Bassett. 04/07/2010-The Patrick County Baseball team lost on Tuesday to Martinburg (WV) 18-7. The Cougars were led by Jacob Reynolds who was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI's and Daniel Leviner who had a solo homerun in the 2nd. The Cougars defense committed 5 errors on the during the game. "It was not our best performance by far," commented Coach Terry Harris. The Cougar baseball team bounced back on Wednesday with a win over Austin-town-Fitch (OH) by a score of 3-1. Dylan Nelson picked up the win on the mound pitching 6 solid innings. Dillon Hall picked up a big save getting the final outs in the 7th with the bases loaded. The Cougars tied the game at 1 in the 6th. Dillon Hall had a 1 out single in the 7th followed by a Parker Heath homerun to put the Cougars up. Coach Harris was happy with Wednesday's win, saying, "It was an outstanding team effort to bounce back from the loss on Tuesday. I am very proud of our kids." These scores are from the Mingo Bay Classic being played in Myrtle Beach. The Patrick County Baseball team will play again on Thursday. The Cougar's Overall Record is now 9-1. 04/05/2010-The Patrick County Baseball team beat Loagan High School (WV) by a score of 6 - 2 in their opening game at The Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach. Parker Heath picked up the win on the mound for the cougars pitching 4 innings allowing no runs on 1 hit. Dylan Nelson led the Cougars going 3 for 4 at the plate with a homerun and a double with 4 RBI's. Jalen Reynolds also added 2 hits, one of which was a homerun. The Patrick County Baseball team will play again on Tuesday against Martinsburg High School (WV). 03/25/2010-The varsity baseball team upped its record to 8-0 defeating Franklin County 5-4. Jalen Reynolds had a double and Bryce Hubbard had an RBI single to score him, Jody Martin then hit a two-run homerun in the 2nd inning. After a walk by Parker Heath, Daniel Leviner hit a double, Morgan Boles hit a Sacrifice Fly and Dillon Hall hit a RBI single to score Leviner. 03/23/2010-The JV Cougar Baseball team used Evan Marshall (W) for five innings (seven strike-outs) in the 17-4 victory over the Chatham Cavaliers. Christian Edmonds and Devin Helms led in hitting for the Cougars with three apiece (Edmonds-two doubles and Helms-three doubles); With two hits each were Tyler Belcher, Carson Clifton and Wendell Hutchens (Belcher and Clifton had a double each); and with one hit were Chase Barnes and Nick Dalton. The JV team record is now 2-4. 03/22/2010-The JV Cougar Baseball team lost to Dan River 12-15. Tyler Dalton (L) pitched 1/3 of an inning; Nick Bowman pitched (with no outs while on the Cougar mound. Cole Trent followed up with 2/3 inning of pitching (one strike-out) and finishing up the Cougar pitching was Braden Nester with three innings (four strike-outs). PCHS suffered five errors and had only four hits, one each inning one-four. Chase Barnes and Carson Clifton each had two hits and with two hits was Tyler Belcher. PCHS suffered two losses in the double header. The second game's score was 3-5. Braden Nester (L) pitched for one inning (one strike-out) and Christian Edmonds pitched three innings with six strike-outs. Tyler Belcher had two hits and Carson Clifton had one. The JV team record is now 1-4. 03/19/2010-The JV Cougar Baseball team started off the Cougar/Cavalier double-header with a win. A 16 hit-16 run game for the Cougars won over a Cavalier four hit-six run game. Tyler Belcher and Christian Edmonds combined for half of the Cougar hits with four each. With three hits was Wendell Hutchens; two hits, Carson Clifton. Chase Barnes, Nick Dalton and Evan Marshall each added one hit. Nick Bowman started on the mound for the Cougars striking out one Cavalier for only 1/3 of the first inning. Trent Cole got the win for the Cougars pitching 2 and 2/3 inning, striking out one batter. Finishing the job on the mound and a save for the Cougars was Tyler Belcher who struck out two Carroll County batters in two innings. "Our bats finally came to life and we started to hit the ball the way we should. We continued to have good defense. It was a good needed win," commented Head Coach Dale Overfelt after Friday's game. The JV team record improved to 1-2. 03/19/2010-The varsity baseball team defeated Carroll County 8 - 1. Daniel Leviner hit a two-run homerun in the 1st inning to get things started. Dillon Hall hit a solo homerun in the 3rd. Jacob Reynolds led the Cougars with two triples and he scored twice. Dylan Nelson picked up the win with four solid innings, and Bryce Hubbard picked up the save with three innings of scoreless pitching. 03/16/2010-The JV Baseball team lost to Chatham 2-3. Tyler Belcher and Evan Marshall had two hits apiece while Levi Trent added a hit. Tyler Dalton got the loss for the Jayvees pitching all six innings. He struck out six batters. Head Coach Dale Overfelt said he had runners in scoring positions, but they 'just could not get them in'. "Our bats failed us today." The team's record stands at 0-2 early in the season. 03/15/2010-The JV Baseball team hosted the Franklin County Eagles and lost 2-9; after assuming a two-run lead for two and one-half innings. Patrick County had nine errors with only four hits as compared to the Eagles one error and 18 hits. Evan Marshall went down as the losing pitcher, on the mound for four innings and struck out five batters; Nick Dalton pitched three innings and tallied four strike outs. Tyler Belcher had two hits, and Wendell Hutchens and Brad Turner each had one hit. Runners scoring for the Cougars were Belcher and Christian Edmonds. The JV Cougar record is 0-1. |
